New York, NY—December 17, 2024. Candid is proud to announce two distinguished leaders, Anahita Tafvizi and Dr. John Brothers, as the newest members of its Board of Trustees. Anahita Tafvizi, chief data analytics officer at Snowflake, and Dr. John Brothers, president of the T. Rowe Price Foundation, have long been leaders in their respective fields—data science and philanthropy—and their work aligns closely with Candid’s mission to provide nonprofits with the data they need to drive positive change.
“Anahita’s extensive background in data, data science, and AI across multiple leading technology companies makes her an ideal fit for Candid’s Board. Her expertise will be invaluable as Candid continues to expand on our sector leading data offerings,” said Ann Mei Chang, CEO of Candid. “At the same time, Dr. Brothers’ respected leadership in corporate philanthropy will add another important perspective to the board. His work with the T. Rowe Price Foundation has fostered community-driven and trust-based approaches to create a stronger nonprofit sector.”
Tafvizi brings over 15 years of experience in data science, analytics, and technology. At Snowflake, she leads the company’s analytics and data science initiatives, optimizing operations and delivering measurable results. Prior to Snowflake, she served as vice president of data science at Instacart, where she played a critical role in preparing the company for IPO readiness and streamlining marketplace operations. Tafvizi has held leadership roles at Google, YouTube, and eBay. A passionate advocate for diversity in tech, she holds a PhD in Physics from Harvard, serves on the board of Make-A-Wish, and advises Raya AI.
&#8220;I’m passionate about using data to tackle complex challenges, and I’m excited to contribute to Candid’s mission of providing nonprofits with the tools they need to drive meaningful change,&#8221; said Tafvizi. &#8220;I’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of data, and I look forward to helping drive Candid’s vision of using data to create positive, measurable impact in the nonprofit sector.&#8221;
As president of the T. Rowe Price Foundation, Dr. Brothers has guided the organization to national prominence through innovative, community-driven approaches to philanthropy. Dr. Brothers also founded and led Quidoo, an international consulting firm focused on governance and evaluation practices. He has taught at New York University, Rutgers University, and Harvard University and serves as a faculty member at the Maryland Correctional Institution through the Goucher Prison Education Project and Coppin State University. His work has been featured in Forbes, the Stanford Social Innovation Review, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal.

Candid has appointed Catherine Williams as its first chief data officer, reflecting its commitment to providing high-quality, data-driven solutions that empower nonprofits and funders. Williams&#8217; expertise will guide Candid&#8217;s efforts to enhance transparency, strengthen partnerships, and further establish its leadership in nonprofit data and analytics.
&#8220;The recent surge of investment in AI is fueling a rapid evolution in the ways data is collected, analyzed, and consumed,” said Ann Mei Chang, CEO of Candid. &#8220;The appointment of our first chief data officer reflects our commitment to leveraging the latest tools and technology to deliver the best data and insights possible to the social sector. Catherine’s extensive expertise in data, AI, and analytics makes her the perfect fit to lead us through the next phase of Candid’s evolution in enhancing the impact of everyone working to do good.&#8221;
Reporting to Chang, Williams will oversee research, data, and data science, leading a team focused on building external partnerships and enhancing internal collaboration. In her role, she will align Candid’s data strategy with the evolving needs of the social sector, advancing the organization’s position as the sector’s leading source for timely, comprehensive, and reliable data.
Williams brings a wealth of experience in data science, artificial intelligence, and platform development. Most recently, she served as vice president of data &amp; AI at Qualtrics, where she built the machine learning platform and launched the company’s data science function. She has also held senior leadership roles including chief data scientist at Xandr (AT&amp;T’s advertising arm) and chief data &amp; marketplace officer at AppNexus. Earlier in her career, she conducted postdoctoral research at Columbia University and Stanford University.
&#8220;Candid is leading the charge across the social sector to encourage data-driven decision making and advocate for transparency,&#8221; said Williams. &#8220;I&#8217;m thrilled to step up to the challenge of leading these talented teams to advance Candid&#8217;s data strategy and create a stronger sector for all.&#8221;
Williams holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Washington and a BA in Mathematics from Grinnell College. She currently resides in Seattle, WA.

Leading nonprofit data provider Candid appoints first-ever chief data officer

New York, NY—September 30, 2024. Candid proudly announces the appointment of Lyle Matthew Kan, Interim President and CEO of Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP), to its board of trustees. With his extensive experience in social justice philanthropy and leadership in multiple organizations, Lyle brings a wealth of knowledge that will further Candid’s mission to connect people with the data and insights they need to drive positive change in the social sector.
Ann Mei Chang, CEO of Candid, shared her enthusiasm for Lyle’s appointment: “Lyle’s dedication to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in philanthropy is truly inspiring. His work with AAPIP, alongside his leadership in racial and LGBTQ+ justice, will add invaluable perspectives to Candid’s board. I look forward to the unique perspectives he will bring.”
Lyle Matthew Kan (he/him) has spent his career championing social justice causes and advocating for marginalized communities. He has previously held leadership roles at CHANGE Philanthropy, Funders for LGBTQ Issues, and the Stonewall Community Foundation, where his leadership focused on strengthening philanthropy&#8217;s response to pressing social issues. In addition, he has served as a strategic advisor to organizations like the Edward W. Hazen Foundation, the Philanthropic Initiative for Racial Equity, and the Queer Youth Fund at Liberty Hill Foundation.
Lyle is particularly well known for his expertise in analyzing trends, gaps, and opportunities in social justice grantmaking. His work, including widely recognized reports and infographics on Asian American/Pacific Islander, LGBTQ, and racial justice funding, has been pivotal in shaping the sector’s understanding of these issues. He is also a co-creator of the Diversity Among Philanthropic Professionals (DAPP) Survey and Report.
Lyle shared his excitement in joining the Candid Board of Trustees by stating, “As an author, editor, researcher, or strategic advisor to more than 50 reports and infographics on trends, gaps, and opportunities related to Asian American, LGBTQ, and racial justice grantmaking, I have dedicated much of my career to getting foundations the information they need to be more effective and impactful. As someone with a long history with Candid, and deep appreciation for Candid&#8217;s team and data efforts, I could not be more excited to join the Board of Trustees and further assist the social sector in gaining access to meaningful information needed to do good.”
In addition to his leadership roles, Lyle is a trustee of the American LGBTQ+ Museum and serves on the advisory councils of CHANGE Philanthropy, the City University of New York (CUNY) LGBTQI Student Leadership Program, and OutVote. He holds a B.A. in Individualized Study from New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study and an M.Sc. in Political Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Lyle currently resides in New York City’s East Village.
