Candid’s D.C. Office Announces Plan to Redirect In-Person Library Services to Local Community Partners
August 1, 2019 (Washington, D.C.) — This past February, Foundation Center joined forces with GuideStar to become Candid, a single nonprofit organization committed to providing research, tools, and trainings to social sector professionals around the world. In the years ahead, Candid plans to reach even more communities through its 400+ Funding Information Network (FIN) partners in the United States and around the world. In the meantime, Candid’s Washington, D.C., office will continue to develop new training programs and convenings, but will be shifting the way it works to better serve our communities.
Bringing Candid's vision to life requires a transformative approach to program delivery and the services provided to nonprofits—on the ground and online. As part of this process, Candid’s two D.C. offices will consolidate. The office currently at 1627 K Street will relocate and will no longer be open to the public as of October 1. Local nonprofits and community members, however, will be able to access Candid resources through the 100 FIN partners in the nation’s northeastern region. Candid has already begun redirecting Candid library customers to nearby FIN locations.
Candid staff in the D.C. region also will be increasing their presence in local communities. Trainings at local FINs and other convenient places in the area have already been scheduled. Go to GrantSpace for a complete listing of programs and scheduled visits so far. All in-person services and access at Candid’s New York location will remain the same.
“We will continue to focus on increasing engagement in the surrounding communities in collaboration with our FIN partners, connecting people to the resources they need to change the world,” said Kim Patton, Director of Candid Northeast. “We’re not changing whom we serve, we’re changing how we serve them. Rather than providing direct in-person library services at our own offices, our team will deliver our services in a neighborhood near you.”
FIN partners will provide access to resources nonprofits and the public have come to rely on from Candid: our virtual help desk and reference services; in-person trainings in the area; Foundation Directory Online (FDO), our signature database for finding funding; and Grantspace.org, our one-stop online portal for nonprofit professionals.
Every year, millions of nonprofits spend trillions of dollars around the world. Candid finds out where that money comes from, where it goes, and why it matters. Through research, collaboration, and training, Candid connects people who want to change the world to the resources they need to do it. Candid’s data tools on nonprofits, foundations, and grants are the most comprehensive in the world. Foundation Center and GuideStar joined forces to become Candid, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
