Deb’s passion is people. Working with the Talent team she helps drive the strategic vision of Candid’s human capital initiatives. Prior to joining Candid, she was Vice President of Operations at GuideStar. During Deb’s twenty-year career at GuideStar, she held a variety of leadership positions in marketing, sales, communications, facilities, finance and public relations.

Deb began her career managing advertising sales operations for several daily newspapers from 1974-1984. Her love for people and their stories led her to start two businesses in 1984 – one as a freelance writer for a Chicago PR firm and a catalog copywriter for various tech and pet companies. The other, a seasonal wholesale business that employed 90 part-time workers and sold specialty items to large grocery chains (Wegmans) in New York and (Stew Leonard’s) in Connecticut.

Deb’s love of the nonprofit sector really took hold in the nineties when she  founded a grass-roots educational advocacy group supporting public education, wrote grants for a cooperative board of education, was a board member for a camp supporting Korean adoptees, and became a two-term elected school board official.

Driven by more than four decades of rich people-centric experiences in business management, writing, advocacy work and local politics Deb thrives on creating environments where people can reach their highest potential.

She holds a B.S. in Journalism from Southern Illinois University.
