Valdemar de Oliveira Neto
Valdemar de Oliveira Neto ("Maneto") is the Global Impact Director of World-Transforming Technologies Foundation and a director of the pioneering sustainable tech company PERA Complexity BV. He joined Foundation Center’s board in 2010 and has extended his third term to ensure continuity in the organization’s transition to Candid.
Maneto is a senior advisor for Fundación AVINA, which was created by Swiss entrepreneur Stephan Schmidheiny to contribute to sustainable development in Latin America. AVINA promotes sustainable development initiatives by encouraging productive alliances between civil society and business leaders and by fostering convergence around action agendas for social change. Maneto previously served as policy director of the organization. World-Transforming Technologies is a spinoff initiative of AVINA.
Before joining AVINA in 2003, Maneto was founding executive director of Instituto Ethos, a pioneering business membership association which promotes corporate social responsibility in Brazil. Elected as an Ashoka Fellow in 1986, Maneto went on to serve as its vice-president from 1994 to 1998 and was responsible for launching Ashoka's Global Fellowship Program for social entrepreneurs. He began his career as a lawyer and was co-founder of the Centro de Cultura Luis Freire, a pioneering organization that promoted human rights and provided legal assistance to marginalized communities.
Maneto earned a law degree from Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Brazil, in 1982.
